BORNEO
We visited the island of Borneo from May 19-31, 2026, on a National Habitat Adventures photography trip. NatHab has a strong commitment to conservation and sustainable travel. The trip was outstanding in every respect. I would recommend it without reservation.

Borneo is the third largest island in the world. It is divided among three independent nations Indonesia, Malaysia, and the tiny country of Brunei. Our trip took us through the two states of Malaysia: Sarawak and Sabah. We began in Kuching the capital of Sarawak. Our excursions included Bako National Park and the Semenggoh Orangutan Center. We next flew to Sandakan, Sabah where we again encountered orangutans at the Kabili- Sepilok Nature Reserve. We also visited the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Center and the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary. This animal is found only in Borneo.

After visiting these sanctuaries, we began a series of river cruises for the next four days on the Kennabatangan River which is the second longest in Borneo at nearly 350 miles. We had multiple cruises each day. Fortunately, the weather was ideal for photography. Of course it goes without saying that Borneo is very hot and extremely humid. We saw a variety of wildlife on these cruises including more Orangutans and Proboscis Monkeys along with several species of Hornbills, Kingfishers and raptors.

Our final three nights were spent at the remote Borneo Rainforest Lodge. It is situated in an area of approximately 160 square miles which is the oldest tropical rainforest on the planet and is famous for its biodiversity. What follows is a sample of images from this memorable trip.
