FLORIDA 2025
These photographs from Florida were taken during the Winter and Spring of 2025 primarily in two locations: on or near the Sarasota Audubon Center's viewing platforms at the Celery Fields in Sarasota and on the shore of Lake Uihlein in Bradenton. The Celery Fields is on the Great Florida Birding Trail. It includes 300 acres of wetlands, trails and recreational space. It also serves as Sarasota County's primary storm water collection zone. Lake Uihlein is a 300+ acre natural lake that contains a populous habitat island that attracts a wide variety of birds.
The photographs in this section include the following species: Sandhill Cranes and their Colt, a Red Shoulder Hawk, a pair of Eastern Bluebirds, a Painted Bunting, Roseate Spoonbills, Anhingas, Osprey, Purple Gallinule, Tricolored Heron, a nesting pair of Great Blue Herons and their two chicks, a Glossy Ibis, a Wood Stork, Black headed Skimmers, a Reddish Egret, a Green Heron and Snowy Egrets. The image of the Great White Egrets were taken at the rookery in Venice.
The photographs in this section were taken with Nikon gear, either a Nikon Z8 or Nikon Z9 mirrorless cameras and either a Nikon 600mm f/5.6 or a Nikon 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 lens. Nikon makes excellent camera gear./. However, in August, 2025, I switched to OM System, the successor to the Olympus brand.
