WELCOME TO THROUGH MY LENS
I am a nature photographer with a particular interest in birds. I have had an interest in photography for many years but have pursued it as a serious hobby for about ten years. My favorite photography venues include several in Massachusetts where I grew up and have lived most of my life. Among these are Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and Sandy Point State Reservation on Plum Island, Newburyport, Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord, and Audubon's Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary in Natick, MA.
This website is a work in progress. Most of the images from the United States were shot during 2025 and 2026 in Florida, Massachusetts, Maine, and California. The images that soon will appear in the Travel section were shot over the past five years.
My style is primarily documentary. I try to record moments that reveal some aspect of a bird or animal's behavior that cannot be appreciated fully without the aid of a camera. I also have a special interest in capturing expressive behavior in birds and animals. Birds have a limbic system in their brains, and while it differs from the structures found in mammals, there is evidence that the two systems are functionally equivalent. In brief, birds have feelings and know how to express them.
I process my photographs using software such as Adobe Lightroom, DxO Pure Raw 6, Topaz Labs, and On1.
Like all photographers, I have benefitted from the advice and experience shared by other photographers especially the members of the Gateway Camera Club of Framingham, MA [www.gatewaycameraclub.org], Massachusetts Camera Naturalists [www.masscamnats.org], and the Lakewood Ranch Digital Photography Club [https://lwrdpc.wildapricot.org] I can't think of a better way to improve your photography than to become an active member of a camera club.
